Are you a Book Coach in the making?
First and foremost, book coaches are editors. And no, I don’t just say that because I double as an editor! I say that because it’s true. Having a sharp editorial eye and being able to examine manuscripts, or even concepts before they are manuscripts, for clarity, flow, tone, voice, cohesion, and viability is your centerpiece skillset from which you will build your coaching plan for each client.
Beyond being editors, book coaches are also teachers. A great book coach can help improve their clients’ craft by helping them evolve their writing style, offering them just the right writing prompts to keep them motivated, and by challenging them to consider new perspectives and pathways in their writing.
Lastly, book coaches are life coaches. Helping someone finish their novel, construct a memoir, or to finally write that poetry collection they’ve been mulling over their whole life can be a very intimate process. It is up to us to offer our clients emotional support, to know when and how to encourage them as well as when to offer them space from their project.
As you probably already know, writing poses a very different experience for everyone, and a great book coach is able to help an author navigate a path to success.
Is the course hard? Am I required to take quizzes?
The Book Coach Mastermind Course isn’t designed to be difficult. It’s designed to teach you how to be the best book coach you can be! The course will challenge you to re-think your perspective and how you approach another writer’s work.
There are no quizzes or tests here! Just a ton of great information and quality resources to help you build your skillsets and a successful career!
How long is the course? Is it do-it-yourself or is there a live component?
The Book Coach Mastermind Course is structured into 12 weeks. I suggest that you follow this structure to get the most out of each lesson, but if you’re a fast learner and you want to move ahead more quickly, you can do that! Or if you want to take your time, you have a busy life, or you’re just enjoying a particular module and want to stay a while, that’s okay too! The course is all DIY, but you will have access to one-on-one sessions with me and a community of peers.
How is the course structured? What kind of lessons are in the course?
The course is 12 weeks long and split into 3 different sections:
Industry Knowledge: This section is 3 weeks long and gives students a full overview of the publishing industry. This will teach you everything you need to know to be able to coach your clients through the publishing process, from self-publishing to traditional publishing, from production to distribution, and everything in between. More than that, I give students a ton of tips and secrets I’ve learned over the years. If you are a book coach, this will help you lead your clients to success. If you’re an author, this will give you a leg up on the competition.
Editorial: This 5-week section teaches you how to become a professional editor! Through college-grade lessons, you’ll learn how to edit a manuscript for content, how to use different perspectives within different genres, how to efficiently provide your clients feedback, and what to look for to make a manuscript strong and saleable. You’ll also learn about copy editing, how to make citations and deal with technicalities, and about all of the errors and questions editors often come across! There are tons of practice exercises provided during these 5 weeks, resources to help you while you edit, and one-on-one time with me to answer all of your questions. You’ll use the knowledge in this section to help develop a business plan for yourself so that you can build a unique business that allows you to work on only the type of projects you absolutely love!
Pro Coach: This final piece of the course teaches you how to build and launch your own book coaching business, step-by-step. From a business plan to branding, from marketing to service packages, I had no idea what it took to start my own business in the beginning! So I want to save all of you from having to make the same mistakes. This piece of the course provides you with all of the materials and resources you need for continued success! Once completed, you’ll receive your Book Coach Certification.
There is also an introductory week that helps students explore exactly what kind of book coach they want to be, and then helps them narrow down a business plan before getting deep into the content of the course.
